Our own backyards
Plein Air Magazine gave the artist a challenge to paint their backyards. Well, challenge excepted.
My backyard backs up to a beautiful cove off the lake we live on. The home association keeps the shoreline natural and uncluttered. There are a few docks and two marinas but the rest is kept uncluttered. Thus, the shoreline is abundant with vegetation, trees and boulders. I paint often in my Cove. I love honing in on the intimate scenes I find there. I feel very blessed to live here in such beauty right in the heart of a city.
we have an abundance of wildlife, such as foxes, geese, ducks, herons, bald eagles, hawks and even a coyote or two. We also see deer occasionally. We leave our area down by the water in a natural state and plant for the wildlife. Our boulders attract denning animals of several species. We have been able to enjoy watching a fox family, a ground hog family and this year a raccoon family.
I have decided to do a whole series based on the beauty of my backyard inspired by Plein Air Magazine and our current quarantine situation. Hopefully it will inspire you to take a closer look in your own backyards.
Happy discovering,
Jennylynne Gragg
