Getting ready for plain air season-canvas panels, testing easels, new paint techniques

Gluing canvasses to panels today and doing more studies with the new plein air easels. Lots of things to do to get ready for the season.  Also need to get the RV and the ArtVan ready to go, cleaned up and packed.

Also hitting the exercise routine an little harder for all that carrying and walking during plain air events.  Just a little extra precaution to avoid injuries and have the needed stamina for the events.

Also looking thru previous photos of the areas, if I have painted there before, to scope out some locations ahead of time.  It's a busy time.

Happy Painting, See you out there,

Got the tripod extension for my EnPleinAirPro easel

So today, I put together the EnPleinAirPro easel pallette on the tripod extender that came a couple days ago. It took me awhile to figure out how to attach it and the size canvases it would hold. Also how to position everything for maximum efficiency while painting. Learning curves are always a hinderance when trying out new equipment but working the bugs out before I go to the field is crucial for me.

I like the look of the setup and the weight (or lack thereof). Will be field testing it sometime this week so I can see which set up works better for me; either using the pallette on my aluminum easel or on the tripod with the panel holder attachment.  Both are about the same weight wise, however the tripod fits into its carrying case and the rest of supplies, including the pallette, into my back pack.  The aluminum easel has to be transported by hand as it does not condense down enough to fit in a carry case or attach to the backpack nicely.

So next week, I will posts my field testing of both set ups and let you know the pros and cons of each.

Till then, happy painting and enjoy the spring,

Getting ready for Plein Air season

EnPleinAirEasel

So it’s spring again, well almost.  I bought a new UGo plein air easel last season because I needed something lighter to take to the field.  And while I adore that easel, there were a few things I missed; like a safer way to access my turp or medium and a more stable brush holder arrangement, so enter the EnPleinAirEasel for oils.

It has a lighter weight footprint, backsplash for blocking the sun on my pallette (which is also the lid), two secure slide outs for brushed, medium/turp, a tempered glass pallette with a value scale built in and a good amount of mixing space.  I am going to order their panel holder which fits on a tripod but in the meantime, it fits nicely on my existing aluminum easel. Am excited to give it a try tomorrow, especially since the temps will be above 45degrees here.

I will probably take them both out and do a painting on each so I can really compare the pros and cons of each side by side.

I will let you know how they both performed after my painting excursion.

Wish me luck,

Happy Painting,

Jennylynne
