Awakening
It has been a tough year for art events but they are beginning to open back up and, I for one, am thrilled. Even though I have continued to paint in Plein air on my own during this chaos, it has been a lonely trek. I love the events that allow me to get out and meet people and also connect with other artists. Artists are, by nature, solitary in their daily lives but these events create a venue to get out of that cloister and mingle with other like minded people, whether other artist or collectors.
The AugustaPleinAire Festival was a total delight. It was wonderful to paint in a part of Missouri that I love and to see old and new faces, in person. The outdoor sales event was a huge hit and I sold well. The day was warm and sunny with a delightful breeze which drew out the crowds.
My other favorite plein air event is the Stem Plein air in Overland Park, Kansas. Unfortunately it was not able to go on as usual. Instead they have opted for a “paint anywhere in plein air” and enter the juried national show. I will miss the gardens where I spend most of my plein air time during this event but am hoping that next year it will return to its local roots and flavor. I submitted a painting from my AugustaPleinAire event and it was juried into the National show at The Rice Art Gallery for the Stems event show.
I am encouraged that many of the events are opening back up during difficult times and restrictions and affording artists a venue to enjoy and get back out in the world of people.
Hoping for a better and happier painting season next year,
Happy Painting!
